You are absolutely right, we intended to verify the camera settings to filter out "fake" cameras. The problem is that the DV cam connected through firewire reports very weird values (8452345361123412235 for framerate?). So there wasn't a good way of telling if it was a real device or not Setting it to accept the first device in its default mode will probably work in most cases. We wanted to have the option of choosing between devices, resolution and framerate but evidently it has caused some issues. What kind of results are you getting from your Creative Live! Motion?
